Album Review: 21st Century Breakdown – Green Day

21st Century Breakdown by Green Day
21st Century Breakdown by Green Day

The latest album by Green Day, “21st Century Breakdown”, is a smash. Even at the first listen, I found myself liking how the album sounds. And it just gets better with each listen.

Somehow, Green Day has a knack for writing melodious punk pop ballads, think “Time of Your Life (Good Riddance)” and “Wake Me Up When September Ends”. In this album, it would have to be “Last Night On Earth” and “21 Guns”.

The highlight though, has to be the faster songs. They are simply infectious. Great rhythm guitars.

Almost all the songs are good, but the more outstanding ones would be “21st Century Breakdown”, “Know Your Enemy”, “¡Viva la Gloria!”, “Murder City” and “21 Guns”. I’d give the album a 4.5 out of 5.

Now I sure won’t want to miss a Green Day concert if they come around.
