들었다 놨다 Love Actually – 데이브레이크 Daybreak Guitar Tab

Following Music Commander, there was An Out-and-Out Escape (or 하면 된다 백수 탈출) a.k.a. 더 원 (The One) on King of Mask Singer.

That was how I came to know the song, 들었다 놨다 (Love Actually) by Korean indie band 데이브레이크 (Daybreak). The One’s performance of the song in his gentle and delicate way left quite an impression on me.

What made the song stick is its catchy melody and lyrics in the chorus. The way the lyrics repeatedly goes “들었다 놨다” (romanised: deureotda nwatda) made a brilliant hook. I initially thought they were just sounds with no real meaning. It turns out that they are words with meanings, and it shows the thought that went into the lyrics.

First released in 2010 as one of the tracks on Daybreak’s second album, “Aurora”, it was remade as a collaboration track between Daybreak and Korean girl group Sunny Hill in 2013. I personally prefer the original version by Daybreak.

Hence, the guitar tab is based on the original version.

So what does “들었다 놨다” mean? The English translation of the lyrics has the answer.

Love Actually

When I first saw you, I could hardly concentrate
I was being careful not to be too obvious
What do I do, I feel so restless
What do I do, my heart is shrinking

You come close to me but then walk away, how strange
Should I laugh or cry, please leave me alone
You always change your mind, it’s confusing

You make my heart flutter and sink
Flutter and sink, hey
You make my heart flutter and sink
Flutter and sink, hey
You make my heart flutter and sink
Flutter and sink, hey
You make my heart flutter and sink, hey

When I saw you again, I tried to give you the cold shoulder
Avoiding you, acting like I didn’t care
But your eyes and your touch
Made my lips parched

You walk away then you come to me, again today
Should I laugh or cry, it is annoying
You always change your mind, it is confusing

Oh, how can I hold you in my heart
