떠나지마요 Don’t Leave – 블락비 Block B Guitar Tab

This song has been on my radar for some time and I’m glad to have found the time to work on it. 떠나지마요 (Don’t Leave) is the lead single from Block B’s repackaged album, “Re:MONTAGE”, released in January 2018.

Block B proves yet again that they are able to handle various music genres. Different from their previous singles, 떠나지마요 is a mid-tempo love song which sounds more emotional in comparison.

Although I did not end up needing a lot of time to figure out the song, it did throw me off a little at the start. This was due to the use of Fm which is not in the C chord family, and its placement in the song is also rather unconventional. Usually, the Fm minor chord would be used to lead into the G chord. In 떠나지마요, it was the second chord after the opening C chord – I can’t think of any song I worked on before with such a chord progression.

The melody is really good – the more I listen to it, the more I fall into it. The chorus has a very strong hook and there are some variations in the melody to keep the song interesting.

The different vocal colours of the seven members also add a lot of charm and points of interest to the song. I found the parts sung by Zico and P.O especially captivating.

Zico sing-raps through the second half of his part and brings out the emotions of the lyrics perfectly. P.O’s charismatic low voice – which I have a soft spot for – closes off the song in a cool, manly fashion.

If my memory does not fail me, Block B’s singles have always been composed by Zico. This time around, 떠나지마요 (Don’t Leave) was written by Park Kyung, with 13 sharing credits for the composition and Zico for the lyrics.
