The Lee Seung Gi I know, is a host on Korean variety show “Strong Heart” and an actor in Korean fantasy drama “A Korean Odyssey”. Although I know that he is also a singer, I have never heard his songs. Maybe it was because the last tie he released his album was more than 5 years ago, in Jun 2015.
It was by chance that I came upon his song, 잘할게 (I will), from his 7th and latest album, The Project.
I happened to look up Yoo Heeyeol’s Sketchbook and saw that Lee Seung Gi was on as a guest. Perhaps because A Korean Odyssey is now on public broadcast in my country, I got curious about how he sounds when he sings and decided to watch the episode.
In the Yoo Heeyeol’s Sketchbook episode where he appeared, Lee Seung Gi sang 잘할게 (I will), the title track from his latest album. I liked the song immediately.
It has a catchy melody and the way certain phrases – in particular, “질 안돼” – are repeated throughout the song, one can’t help but be ‘hooked’ to the song. I also like how the song builds up slowly and modulates to a key higher towards the end of the song, pushing it to a climax.
The chords are not too hard. Good for playing and singing on the guitar.
